Lecturer - Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at Queens College in the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position, with appointment to begin in Spring 2019.
As an urban liberal arts college that emphasizes both research and teaching, Queens College has earned high rankings in prestigious college guides such as The Princeton Review?s America?s Best Value Colleges. The Computer Science Department serves 1600 undergraduate majors and 100 master's degree students, and participates actively in the Computer Science Ph.D. program based at the CUNY Graduate Center.
The duties of this position include teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, developing innovative methods of instruction, curricular development, serving on departmental and college committees, and advising students. A Lecturer?s primary obligation is to provide quality, inspiring instruction to students. This position requires 27 semester-hours of classroom teaching per year, with no released time for research. It is important to realize that this is a full-time teaching and curricular development position, not a primarily research focused position, nor a postdoctoral position. Reappointment for a sixth year earns a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) from CUNY.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in computer science or computing engineering, possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate outstanding teaching ability, and have at least three years of teaching experience with full responsibility (not as a teaching assistant) for courses in multiple subject areas . Also required are a strong commitment to teaching a diverse student body and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications include an additional post-bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, documented experience in teaching courses at both undergraduate and master's levels, and demonstrated ability to teach courses in software development/engineering and hardware/software systems (e.g., computer architecture, networks, OS).
CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
